The District's Mission is to provide information about soil, water, and related natural resource conservation; identify and prioritize local soil and water

resource concerns; and connect land users to sources of education, technical and financial assistance to implement conservation practices and technologies.

The Monroe County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) was Established in 1943 by a referendum vote of landowners.  The District is governed by a board of five supervisors who are residents of the county.  These citizens are elected by their peers and serve for a three-year term.

The District is a local subdivision of Indiana State Government, responsible for leadership in the conservation of Monroe County’s natural resources: soil, water, air, wildlife, forests and lakes.  The SWCD Board meets monthly and all meetings are open to the public.
